Windows Media Players 7 through 10 worked fine when I was on dial-up.
Last year I switched to DSL. All programs on my PC recognize and use DSL without a problem EXCEPT for Windows Media PLayer.
It upgraded automatically to WMP 11 sometime recently. Have not used it for three months because I use other things like Winamp most.
So, today I decided to see what's on offer for Online Radio there. Changed so much, inscrutably, in usual MS fashion, you now need to go back to school for B.S. in WMP 11 to work it. How do they manage to do that? It is really funny?
Well, I eventually found Radio Stations to click on, but when I click PLAY a pop-up box small in size comes up that says I must be connected to the internet.
I AM CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET. How do I get WMP to recognize DSL phone connection to USB?
Maybe WMP 11 still thinks I am on dial-up.
Why does the GREAT MICROSOFT WMP have all this trouble and Winamp, and all other softwares on PC (several used for internet media of all types) do not have this trouble?
The answer is not in WMP FAQ by MS.
Nothing I tried in WMP works -- I tried fiddling things under Options Tab, internet.
If no one has answer I will just remove the program, reinstall WMP 10, if I can find a download, and see what happens from there.
I HATE WHAT I HAVE SEEN IN WMP 11, a big DOWNHILL like NEW COKE, but setting a FURTHER RECORD.
So, I will have to keep WMP 10 from automatically upgrading to WMP 11.
MS is beginning to AMAZE me!. How do they manage to screw up all the simple things while introducing such stupendous complexity?
The new WMP is USELESS to me as it now stands, taking up space and doing nothing useful at all.
Because it does not recognize I am connected to internet.
I did not have to do ANYTHING for other programs to recognize my new DSL internet connection.
