Windows Vista Not Picking Up Camera.?

I have a JVC digital video camera, and I have the IEEE 1394 cord for the camera to connect to my computer but it does not seem to be either picking up my camera on my computer or opening up the import video screen.
I tried WinDV and It Did not work.
