With sattelite tv can you hook up a regular vcr...?

VCR/DVD's usually record as well as copy one to the other. I suggest that you read the instructions again.
 
I have sattelite; the vcr only plays tape or dvd but does not record. It is hooked on tv1.
I saw something in the book about hooking one to tv2 - but will it record? Or must I buy/rent a special vcr? It obviously does not have the same channel #s as the sat. service.
