At the moment my internet is terribly slow, it’s like a dial up. I have an ancient D-Link router and have been wondering if a new one will improve my internet speed and stability.
Try updating the drivers first for your router (if possible). If there are no drivers, do you have diags to run for the D-Link? You can buy them on ebay pretty cheap if you need to replace it. But yes, they can make a difference. Oh.....also, call your ISP, what is their upload and d'load link to you? Has that changed?
