Would I be able to play movies with .mkv extension on my DivX Ultra certified player?

Hi, I recently got a Philips DVP3556 DVD Player with DivX Ultra Certification and I wished to know if it could play files with .MKV and .AVI extensions? Thanks a lot in advance!
