People who think they need to "upgrade" from a 600 to a 1000 never really learned to ride. A 1000 is cool (I have a GSX-R1000 myself) but there is nothing it can do on the street that a 600 can't do.

Will you kill yourself? You have a good chance of wrecking it, that's for sure. You don't have the skills to use an R1. You don't need an R1 on the street. A good rider in a 600 is way faster than a new rider on an R1.

When a new rider buys a bike like that, it is their ego that's making the decision for them, not any logic.

From a selfish standpoint? People who buy too much bike are a constant source of low mileage repair parts for my own bike. From a motorcyclist standpoint? I would tell you to get an SV650SF and ride that for a few seasons.
