Would it be difficult for an American to vacation in Japan?

I'm considering a ski trip to Japan in a year or two, but I don't know any japanese.

Is it fairly tourist friendly, or will I get lost and arrested and sent to work in the phosphorous mines with the other confused foreigners?
 
Japan is fairly tourist friendly (although some places are segregated 'Japanese only' places, but those are few and far between). If you need help, just learn common phrases and pronunciation (very important because you could end up saying something you don't mean) or ask a person who's a student. I hear that a lot of students in Japan take an English course.
