Would the Hi Point C9 make a good rookie pistol?

I just looked it up, and the C9 looks like a good first pistol. It's cheap, simple, and it looks fairly durable. What do you think? Would you recommend it as a first gun?
To hatefing: I didn't buy anything yet. I'm looking for info on a good pistol. I figured yahoo is a good place for feedback. What do you think of a Glock or a Ruger SR9, as a first pistol?

Your not going to like what I'm going to say.

Its something people new to guns buy because either there poor or cheap or simply don't know any better and poor or cheap. It's OK for starters. But in a month or two you'll end up hating it and trying to sell it. The sigma is a better gun and no one likes it. There are much better options out there in the mid $300 range like the ruger you could of gotten but generally quality handguns are in the 500-700 dollar range but will last forever. Even if your starting out that would of been a better choice.

So why did you buy it? Cheap because you are, cheap because your poor, or cheap mixed with ignorant. There are plenty of people who have them and don't complain but I watched a .40S&W literally explode in my friends hands. Now I will be thumbed down by the fanboys.

This is something you really should of asked before buying it. Now defend yourself angriliy like many other have in the past.

I would not recommend it. If you have the opportunity to fire one, and through some unforeseeable circumstances you still think it's a good pistol, then I would say go ahead and by it. However, if you shoot it and any other pistol, I could guarantee with almost absolute certainty, you will find the Hi Point to be inadequate in almost every respect.

I can't recommend a Hi-Point. They may be okay- I have no idea.

But, what I do recommend is a pistol with a usable thumb safety-especially for a rookie. The SR9 would be on the list-although near the bottom.
Glock?....I am not a Glock fan-but.......the 19 is very popular and is just about the perfect size. Its big enough to use for home defense or carry to the range, and its also small enough to conceal carry. Glocks do not have safeties- and that is my biggest gripe with them. If i were going to buy a 9mm without a safety- it would be the Glock 19.

If you are considering a Hi-Point, why not look a Taurus 809. Its big, and shoots like a dream. They run about $400 normally, and you can find them occasionally for $359. Stoeger Cougar is a good gun for $400.
