A friend goes to an MD and is prescribed pain meds. The MD that gives the pain meds gets a kick back from the pharmacuetical companies to prescribe these substances to those who should not require them... and then the patient (victim) becomes addicted to the substance (and a few of these substances are more difficult to break then street drugs: ( I.E. Zanax, oxycotin, viocden, percocet to list a few).

Increasing a pharmacuetical demand, keeping drug companies in business while the rest of the economy suffers..

80% of Americans on some form of prescription medication... possibly a vast majority either on pain meds or pyschotropics...

When can we stop this vicious catch 22... turn to Holistic treatments first and evaluate the insurance co. for paying for these things in unnecessary cases (and it does include the government ... even the government supplies oxycotins to people that may not be necessary). the MDs that prescribe them...pharmacuetical companies that give kick backs for prescribing .

We need to reclaim our Health as a society.

What recourse do we have as a society?????

I'm interested in a reevaluation of the system. I am not stereotyping all into one category, but 80% Americans seems a bit more than those who would require pharmacuetical assistance.

Instead of people of one religion / faith beat up another religion / faith - we could be making a stand together to better this "One" world.
Kick backs aren't just $$$, they could be supplies, vacations to fancy resorts, or many other material things.
raprunr - This is not just a "US" problem...How many other countries have governments, centralized health insurance, MDs and pharmacueticals. My information is based on US cause that's where I reside, but it is a World Issue.
I don't want to lump all into one category, but the problem is huge. Those who prescribe cautiosly are the minority ... We need a change of this vicious cycle.

Learn to spell. Also, people will go to the doctor for any minor thing they can complain about, and doctors will prescribe meds. in order to get more money.

It'd be more impressive if you could show a statistic showing addiction rates. However, showing that most Americans use meds. doesn't prove there's a problem.
