Individuals could pay the $2500 when they get their car tags every year.
Commercial Vehicles, like delivery vehicles, trucks for construction workers, co. fleets etc.
would be exempt.
Antiques would be exempt.

No. The only tax I continue to dream of and would support is the sales tax and the abolition of all other taxes, including income tax.

you would have to start with a 1 or 2 kid limit before you tried some crap like that...I guess you think that us contractors that have to drive big trucks should be taxed...if so who the hell is gonna build your houses, businesses, bridges, deliver you food? some peoples mothers should have just swallowed instead!

Nope that is discrimination, Tax an individual for their choice. whats next taxing me more for how much water I use, or electricity I consume. Oh ya that's all ready in the works its called Cap and trade.

No dummy. What country do you think this is? After that what stops them from shutting off your computer after 2 hours of use. The electricity the computer consumes through the course of the day is more then your microwave. You should be charged more for your computer. What about when they shut your air conditioner down after two hours or charge you an extra $50 a month to have an air conditioner? Not to use it but just to possess it. Do you see where this is going. Heat in the winter time. You do want to stay warm in the winter is my guess. Let's make that an extra $100 a month so you can stay warm. You are being lied to about the amount of resources our planet has and "global warming". DO NOT believe me. Look up that there is three hundred thousand billion cubic square feet of natural gas that they KNOW about in Alaska alone. Stop. The number is three hundred thousand billion cubic feet of natural gas.

No. I would support a gasoline tax instead. It would be more effective in reducing fuel consumption. Your tax would encourage drivers to classify their cars as commercial vehicles.

No, I live in a rural area and require a 4X4 to get to work, town, and even around town. I spend a lot of time pulling little 4 cyl. trucks out of the snow on the back roads. How about we get rid of California instead? Save more money.

In effect you want to punish people because they are not living their life the way you want them to.

BTW - I have a set of 3-week old twins. Care to explain why I should be punished because I have a car that is large enough to fit myself, my wife, a double stroller and two infant car seats?

If the basic idea were good, it is not, your implementation is wrong. You couldnt go off cylinder count, it would have to be CCs, gross weight, and fuel mileage. The formula could take up 3000 pages and noone would read or understand it, the congress would just pass it. Also the best method of implementation would be through a $1000 'green tag' tax, and the rest in a government ran insurance plan. Insurance is already the law everywhere... its only a matter of time. Thats a better way of implementing your horrible idea.

Besides your premise is flawed. Would Jesus drive an SUV? Yes he would. That way he could comfortably fit all his disciples and gear into two vehicles not 5. In the big picture it is actually cheaper and more efficent for familys to have larger cars.

Also, Detroits bread and butter is big, profitable trucks. Your proposal would further jeapordize a distressed industry, which employs millions, to say nothing of contracting, shipping etc. Everything would be more expensive and everyone would be touched.

But in any event, who are you to influence my vehicle choice? To do so is an assualt on my rights and an affront to the One who endowed me with them.
