?Writers? Do You Use Abbreviations When Texting/Messaging Friends? Such as

'LOL' or 'IDK'?
Just a fun little question. :)

I know some writers who despise to use abbreviations, and some who don't mind. What are your feelings toward using abbreviations as a writer? :)

BQ: I don't think most writers go so far as to avoid smileys...but what do you think about them? Do you prefer to avoid adding the symbols to make a smiley, or don't you care?

I use 'LOL', but that's it. I never abbreviate anything else and never use text-speak when I'm texting. I always use proper punctuation when I text as well.

I don't do IM or chatrooms at all.

EDIT: I don't mind smileys, but only if they're used sparingly.

I try very hard not to use abbreviations, but sometimes I can't help it. I mostly just use "idk", "brb", and "btw". It's especially hard to speak correctly in a text message - you only get 160 characters! I'll abbreviate when I'm running out of room, but I have to admit, a little part of me dies inside when I do...I guess that's one of the quirks of being a writer! :)

of course i do...in fact it depends how i write...like with my friends i'm very informal..and my hands fly when am texting so i hardly check..
but with adults or other people i'm very formal with them

so either way it depends

Sometimes, I write properly sometimes, other times I get lazy and abbreviate. Just because I write doesn't mean I can't.
I use smileys far too much.

Yeah. Just because I love to write doesn't mean I have to be fully descriptive and grammatically correct in informal, unprofessional situations. That's impractical. Chatspeak is practical when you have to write things extremely fast.
