Need advice here....feel like I am caught in the middle and being a referee. My daughter is 12, and for about the past year if my husband or I ask her to do something she doesn't want to do she yells. This should have been dealt with a year ago, but now when this happens my husband yells back and tells her she can't talk to us like that. Then she yells again...so back and forth and nothing gets resolved. I always feel like I need to fix this as we have two younger daughters 8 and 6 and I don't want them to do the same with us in the future. My husband just says that she needs to show respect and I told him that I don't want to have to deal with this all the time and my husband said I should just keep out of it when it happens.

I got so upset tonight that I told my daughter I wanted to talk to her and ended up crying and saying that her behavior is causing a problem and I will not be a referee between her and her dad anymore and she has to show respect to both of us and not yell at us. My daughter was sincere and I think shocked at my emotions and said "I will try harder mom."

Should I just keep out of it and back up my husband...continue to demand the respect and hope it gets better?

I feel that this could really cause problems in our marriage...and wish I could find a way to figure it out.
