i get what you're saying here. definitely crappy judgment on both sides, although only one side paid the ultimate price.
for me, what's upset me the most about this whole thing is the initial tailing of the "suspect". i just don't see any way around it, martin was profiled as suspicious because he's black. the boy was doing nothing but walking. sure, you can say zimmerman's got "black friends" or helped black people. but, i think there's a pattern from zimmerman in the past year before the incident. and i think that pattern is eerily similar to other instances where we've seen african american boys become more 'suspicious' than others.
the last paragraph is one where many people here disagree with me. truthfully, i have not heard anything on this thread that's changed my mind about it. i've experienced this type of racism first hand where i grew up and other places i've spent a lot of time. can i prove it? certainly not. is justice or the fbi going to be able to prove it? no. also certainly, zimmerman is not going to come out and admit it. but i just can't get over the fact that martin was doing nothing. and that upsets me when i think about it--when i think about my own two sons walking down the street (admittedly, not african american).
