My 5th generation I-pod video (30GB) stopped working about 3 weeks ago, and with no help from apple customer service I am left I-pod/mp3-less. I listen to music very often, and I rarely spent a day without my I-pod (until recently). Im in need of a new phone however, and was considering a smartphone for advanced music options without having to pay $250+ for a new mp3 player. I have given up on apple so I will not be purchasing another apple product in the near future. I have considered buying a Zune HD 16GB (much less storage than what I had before) as I am unable to purchase a higher storage capacity music player. Along with this, I have considered buying a simple feature phone. I would like to know if it would be wiser to purchase a smartphone (which requires a mandatory $30 data plan) or go with the zune + feature phone combo. I am not interested in accessing web, social networking, or applications on my phone, I simply want music, calling, and texting. I do not want my parents to spend the $30 extra a month for a smartphone ( I'm only 15), however, I do not want them to spend the $170+ on the Zune. The smartphone's price is free with a 2year contract. Which option would be better long term. All answers and opinions are welcome.
