1997 mercedes e320 idles fine in gear goes to 1000 RPM?

Car overheated, I replaced the thermostat and the battery died. I broke the coolant sensor replacing the thermostat. I have a new battery, new thermostat, and a new coolant sensor. when switching from park to reverse or drive rpms go to 1000 from 1200. It has no power. Any suggestions?
Cann't drive the vehicle anywhere. it doesnt get up a small hill.
 
Yes, I have a suggestion. Find a reputable repair facility near where you live and take it there and have a professional properly diag the vehicle for you.
