I'm about to get a car and I wanted to know if the Chevrolet Avalanche would be a good 1st car. I tried reading up on it but most sites are just promoting it for sales. Anybody know from experience? I'm 17 male. All info would be great.

Well the Avalanche is a good truck. It's very practical and very good looking too. The engine makes a decent amount of power and gets very good mileage for such a large truck. Being a GM vehicle, there is a long warranty on it and a lot of great standard features, like OnStar. And new GM trucks tend to be very reliable, the Avalanche is no exception.

Large trucks are typically safe when they're well built (like the Avalanche), and 4WD is also a big plus in snowy states. And the Z71 and LTZ version look very cool too. Plus the Avalanche has the very useful midgate feature that changes it from a 4 door truck, to a 2 door one with a very long bed.

As a first car, it's very expensive and insurance will be very expensive on any new car, especially an expensive one with a V8. Also gas mileage isn't good in any large truck, and this is no exception.

It's a very good truck, but as a first car, maybe something cheaper, or used, would be a better option. Unfortunately, GM will stop making the Avalanche in the very near future, due to new CAFE laws. So if this can be afforded by your family, I highly doubt you will be upset with this truck.

Try looking for a used Avalanche. It can be pretty much as good, at less than half the cost of a new one.
