A interesting unique persuasive speech topic? Im in Japan...so..please help!?

Im doing the speech competition, and Im in the persuasive category.
I don't want to do anything environmental, or political, because its very common.
I live in Japan so I thought it would be interesting to do something quirky about Japan.
If some of you guys have visited, what did you find strange, unique or funny?
Or maybe a topic, that is personal to us, not just in Japan but to all of us.
Please Please help me. I'm very stuck
 
Most of Japanese housewives dry their laundries in the sun. I think, it is very ECO, compared with to use the clothes dryer.

There are many sunny days in most of US area. How do you think about? If you are interested in it, estimate how much electric-power (or its fee) does it save.

I know you do not want the environmental topic, however this is not a small problem as the most people think about. So, you can construct an interesting story.
