As I was on my way home from work one day, an orange malfunction light went on. I called the Honda service center right away, because I've only had the car for a little under a year and it shouldn't be having such problems already. They said to bring it in the next morning. After dropping off the car, they call and tell me that a rat chewed through some wires! I went to go see it and sure enough, you can see little foot prints around the engine and then a small space that had small pieces of paper and such as a little nest. They quoted $400 for them to make the repairs. However, they said it can be more or less because they still plan to check the rest of the engine to make sure no further damage was done. The deductible for my insurance is $500, so they're no use. Anyways, how do I prevent from this happening again?? I read about moth balls under the car when parked. I also heard that using Bounce sheets, but where do I put them? And, can I leave them in there or do I take them out before driving? I also need something that can stay in the engine while I'm at work. I think this is where the rat came from because we are located right next to a freeway and have had rat problems before. Should I inform them of the problem also? Are they obligated to control the rat problem in the parking lot? Any answers will help, since I can't find much with my searches on the internet.
