Adding Surround Speakers to Home Theater System ?

I have a Sony Home Theater (5.1 channel) BD System , and also have 2 extra surround speakers of other company , i wish to use them as extra surrounds and so want to connect the speaker to the already connected (Sony's) surround speakers ...Pls Help ? Does it involve any risk of Damaging my BD System or Speakers ?
