bike trails? want to try more challenging trails to see if I like it, but am torn between buying a dual sport which is great on road, then change tires to go off road, or go with a 29er with mountain tires all the time. pricing with similar components is about the same. Montare/Utopia vs Cobia/Mamba

Keep in mind, with 29-er, you can get Hybrid tires for them when you are hitting the road, you can put 700c x 35 tires on.

Also, remember, the regular 29-er XC hardtails bike have heavier duty components for XC type of riding.

Then there is probably a gearing difference, as XC will be suited for climbing than top speed.

Really, the best advice I can give you is test ride them both. If your LBS has a rental-to-own program, take advantage of that. Extensive seat time will give you the best idea of which bike is more suited to your needs
