I've never connected to Wi-Fi or used tag mode or anything like that in Animal Crossing: Wild World and yet I still occasionally pick up bottle mail.

Is this just supposed to be some cute default bottle message put in the game by Nintendo? Or am I connecting to other people without knowledge of it?
