How can anyone hate Twilight? Why, Stephanie Meyer's Twilight ranks up their with the works of Charles Dickens, Jane Austin and Hemingway! LOLing.

I don't usually randomly comment on forums like this but I couldn't help myself.
I am so damn happy that I'm not the only one in the universe that thinks Twilight ISN'T the besthingEVA!!OMGLOL etc.
My best friend got into it heavily after I let him borrow a copy of the first book he got for chirstmas and I've only gotten more and more sick of it since. I suppose I don't mind so much that he likes it since he reads proper books like The Count of Monte Cristo and Pride of Prejudice-plus he freely admits it's trash, but what i hate the most is the angry army of fangirls who insist that it's the best romance in the world.
Since I'm currently in the middle of writing a dissertation on the relationship between romance and death for my English degree I can't even go into how wrong that statment.
If you're looking for a real show of love i strongly recommend instead looking at Beatrice and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing by good ol' Will Shakespeare. Not this crap.

What is with the obsession with angsty pretty-boy's in pain?! They are so boring!

And whilst I'm at it, what's with the obsession with vampires?! All they are is a victorain metaphor for the alluring yet destructive sexual urges of the human mind. Hardly suitable for a so-called romance novel.

End of rant.

p.s. Twilight lovers-Some people don't like the book, some people have different opinions to you, some people have different standards of literature, deal with it.

Same poster as above, I just wanted to straighten a couple fo things out:

1. I have read it (I mean to say I lent him MY copy that I got for Christmas).

2. I have nothing personally against Twilight-lovers, I hate the book, not you. I wouldn't at all object to having a debate if you think you have legitimate reasons why you think differently. I guess I should have pointed out that my objections are mainly against the sloppy narrative and poor language use ('He pointed with one finger' for example-unnecessarily complicates the sentence when 'He pointed his finger' would do). If you think it deserves to be regarded a legitimate romance classic or work of genius, I am happy to banter with you :)

3. Sorry about the poor spelling, I study Literature rather than Language and am somewhat infamous with my lecturers for my crappy spelling (I <3 spell check)

Your saying Stephanie Myers is up there with the most Famous and amazing classical authors of all time?? are you actually mad??? only people that study English Literature and Language can actually see the Twilight series for what they really are; boring, plotless and unimaginative, I sugest you re-read the book and not look at the bloody sparkling Vampires and the mary-sue charaters and actually read it in depth, prehaps then you will see what we see. Good day.

3..........2......1....... you died

Twilight sucks. End of story. Whoever wants to kill someone over not liking Twilight needs to go to the psycho-therapist and gets some anger management classes. I am all for having your own opinion and if you consider that great literature, good for you.

I'm assuming you are 14 years old and don't know any better.

seeing from what you wrote above, it means you're an old fart with no life who goes on hate websites and annoys people........ and yes that is what im doing :P..... but you see im not an old fart who has acne <--------- YOU
so get a grip and do something that will not get stuck up your arse......... aka........ we hate you....... please do contact me old man on [email protected] i would like to argue with you further....

What the hell?

I agree completely. I'm a 28 yo English teacher and I think that Twilight is absolutely terrible. Bella is a Mary Sue and plays a damsel in distress all the time. She plays no part in saving herself. She ends up being saved repeatedly by others. Also, considering I moved to a new high school my sophomore year of high school, I know that people don't automatically talk to you and love you if you're new. What was with the instant love that she receives when she arrives in Forks? She has no flaws apart from the fact she's a world class klutz and that makes her pitiable rather than human.

Edward has no flaws either. Perfect people don't make for a perfect story. Perfect people are uninteresting. On top of all that, I think the descriptions used for Edward were highly repetitive.

This book was not worth the paper on which it was printed.

Edward has no f

IF YOU HAD PAYED ATTENTION TO ANY THING YOU'D HEARD AND ACTUALLY READ THE SECOND BOOK YOU WOULD REALISE THAT IT IS BELLA SAVING EDWARD SO GO AND DO SOMETHING WORTHWHILE!! SHE DOES HAVE FLAWS - SHE THINKS SHE'S SELFISH AND SHE NEVER BREAKS RULES.
DON'T YOU GET IT? INSTANT LOVE? OBVIOUSLY YOU'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE PSYCHOLOGY OF THE WORLD - YOUR BRAIN DOESN'T THINK TO THAT DEPTH!!
go get a life :D

Oh my gosh... It seems you must either be obsessed with loving it or obsessed with hating it? Seriously, Twilight doesn't deserve the fuss and riot.

*Shakes head*

I read Twilight a good while before it became the craze it is today. While I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. Sure Stephanie Meyer had some great moments. The ideas were interesting, but she didn't follow through. The writing was tedious and starts to grate on your nerves about halfway through. She repeats the same descriptions over and over, and the spacing in the plot was insane. She takes ages to explain all the minute details in Bella's life as she arrives in Forks, and the blooming romance between Bella and Edward. Near the end of the book, it spins off into this tale about other vampires coming to town and Bella needing to get as far away as possible. From then on, the actual climax seems to be nearing.

Basically, what I'm getting and is she meandered along for the first 3/4 of the book then stuck some major conflict in, developed it and let Edward and Bella come out on top. Both of them are extremely boring characters, and their love is annoying. Bella and Edward's character don't develop at all during the book, and Bella hardly seems like a 'middle-aged' woman at heart. She's definately a teenager who's ready to throw away her whole future for some guy.

After Twilight, I did continue to read the rest of the books. My sister was hooked, and as long as she was buying them I wouldn't let them sit on my shelf unread. I was sad to see that while Stephanie's writing improved a little, the actual story didn't. She got better and spacing the plot and writing in general, but the characters didn't grow or mature at all. In fact, they seemed to become more childish.

Some may argue that this is great literature, and some may say that it is trash. In my opinion, it is mediocre at best. The same 700 some old novel could have been a 100 page novella, for all the value one would get out of it.

Can I point out that I'm in the target audience, and I still think it's not that great? I'm a 14 year old girl. You don't have to study Language or Literature to see that this book isn't genius. You just need some things to compare it to. This book is good for getting reluctant readers to read. It accomplishes at least that much. Once they are into it, you can start to introduce the better, more valuable reads. You don't want to thrust a book like Pride and Prejudice at someone who shudders to even look at a book outside of school.

I definately wouldn't recommend this to one of my friends, but their opinion of the book doesn't affect how I feel about them. If they love it, I tell them I don't and that's the end of it. We don't fight, I don't try to convert them and they don't try to convert me. The fate of the world DOES NOT rest on someone's opinion of a not-to-great story. My advice to anyone who wants a book with both a great story and great writing, is to look up Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

hateeeee f**kin twilight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know who else has heard of it but I swear everywhere single place I go, I keep hearing about this book called "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyers and it is driving me insane!!! I have actually read it and it was terrible. It's directed towards 15 year old girls whose only concern is meeting the perfect guy who will rescue her and basically take care of her and blah, blah, blah ( I’m 14 read the Twilight didn’t bother with the rest of the series), a Prince Charming if you will. It's complete rubbish! The guy is a vampire (yes you heard me) and literally saves the girl like 5 times throughout the book. That is basically the point out of it. I seriously laughed out loud while reading it because it was so predictable and pointless. (Yes I read it. I do not believe in criticizing or praising a book without reading it first) It's 450 pages of a girl somehow getting in trouble and then what's his face comes in the nick of time. And this was an assignment for Honors English, so yes in some sort of way; I was forced to read it.
I have been to countless boards, stores, internet sites where I hear these young women praise this book as "The best book they have ever read." Isn't that tragic? That's the problem with today's society. Young women should be reading classics, empowering stories or at least something they can get something out of. All this book does is reinforce the notion that women need to be rescued and that there really is a Prince Charming waiting to be found and that once a girl finds him everything will be happily ever after from then on or if not that she’ll have a godlike amazingly handsome, immortal vampire dude that is willing to kill the world for you. I was at school the other day and actually saw two of my classmates including my TEACHER crying, yes crying about how Edward saved Bella at the end of the book and how much he really loves her and how cute it is, I of course in a daze, nearly fell off of my chair at how pathetic they sounded HE’S A FREAKIN BLOODY FICTIONOUS CHARACTER, PEOPLE GET A LIFE. I believe in love and I hope every girl who wants to find some amazing guy does but this book is complete nonsense and to hear a 46 year old English teacher dish about how much they love a "Vampire" just really depresses me.
Love isn't magic. There is no such thing as a fairytale and as much as I love the Little Mermaid to believe that's how it turns out with every girl would be a discredit to my intelligence! I would love to see people praise a classic like The Count of Monte Cristo or Pride and Prejudice, The Kite Runner, and A Thousand Splendid Suns. To enjoy a book of fiction or get lost in it is fine but to have faith in it to believe it's what you want for yourself (like marrying a freaking vampire!!! yes, I heard my teacher say she wants to marry this guy!!!) is just mind boggling. Perhaps I am just venting but why oh why is this book getting so much praise?!?!?!
dude i hate twilight but all my best friends absolutely luv it and it drives me insane i sware i mean ya its a movie and book big woop get over it already!!!!!!!!!!! its so stupid!!!!!!!!!! its like 24/7 twilight twilight blah blah blah!!!!!!!!! just shut the f**k up about it already and move on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I agree with your opinion on Twilight, I would like to point out that it's not ONLY America that has a Twilight obscession and also, I know that Twilight was written in America and by an American but is that at all relevant to the argument???? and whats with the 'Emo, Goth and worthless punks' thing?? why should it make ANY difference to the argument about a BOOK, what the reviewers style is?

Now the Twilight Saga is awful, poorly written and completly plotless and unimaginative as I belive another reviewer has pointed out. All this book has succeded in is creating hordes of fangirls who belive the only acomplishment they are ever going to make in life is getting married and having a kid straight out of secondary school (or high school as it is in America) its ridulous!!!! the characters are poorly written and Ms. Meyer repeats the same despriptions over and over and over again e.g. My loud Truck, or oh my! how perfect is Edward!!!! she seemingly is a completely unimaginative woman, no offense Ms. Meyer but I could write better that you and I'm only 15.

Thanks for reading my huge rant!
