Are Foam Filter Intakes bad for Turbo Chargers?

I'm seriously thinking about getting an HKS intake for my 08 MazdaSpeed3. I know that the foam element would help out in performance but does it allow too much air/dirt pass through the intake? I have heard that foam elements are bad for turbochargers for this reason. Please help me out with hard data to support answers. Thanks people!
