Are the rumours concerning a World War I "Total War" game true?

If so, that would be freakin'g awesome! I'm sure they would need to TOTALLY revamp the game engine though, so I doubt it would be coming out for at least a couple of years. If anyone has heard anything, do tell! CA have denied claims of a World War I game, but there seems to be evidence on the contrary.
 
I seriously doubt it. World War I's style of combat doesn't fit in with the Total War style of play. WW I soldiers didn't stand in lines and trade volleys of fire. The closest you'll get to a Total War combat in a World War I or II type era is the Theatre of War series.

The current rumor for the Total War Franchies is Shogun 2: Total War, which is expected to be revealed at E3.
