freeindie.com is one with lots and lots of music on it, with all sorts of taste, all totally legal. Also, Blalock's Indie Rock Playlist is a monthly playlist with at least a hundred songs on it, usually decent, and isn't all just "indie rock". Just google it, there are a couple places to get it from. Even if you search for music blogs there are often free downloads. Itunes gives a free single every week, and if you're in Canada you can get a French one too.

no there's no such thing as "legal free songs" en less you know someone that writes music and will give it to you for free
