Atheists do you really believe that people would stop killing each other

if religion was gone? That's rediculous people would find something new to kill each other over.

I love how internet militant Atheists think they're the pinnacle of all human understanding.
 
No, i don't, stop assuming what my thoughts are before I get a chance to answer the question.

I don't believe wars, violence, murder, etc are the sole result of religion. Those things are the result of the greed, and power-hunger that many human beings have. These things would still exist either way, but religion is often a quick and convenient justification for war and murder. I do however think there are some important political and social issues that would become less controversial and easier to solve if religion played no role.

I have never claimed that religion is the sole reason for humans attacking one another, nor have I ever used that as an argument against religion.
 
Well actually if there were no jews and no Muslims we might not have a problem in the middle east..we might not have so much terrorism. that might be nice.... and many theist are the pinnacle of misunderstanding... wow it's fun to throw out generalities
 
uh, people have pretty much always found a reason to kill... religion is just another excuse... so where did you get the idea that atheists believe that religion is the root of all the killings? I think the real reason is with/without (that, and some people are just plain crazy!).

Umm...yes.

When humanity learns to set aside their differences and live together, there will be no war. That can't happen if we are willing to kill each other over an imaginary friend. So...by the time humanity learns to live without religion, they will have also learned to live without fear, hate and...war.
 
No. People will still kill each other but it will drop sharply. And murder is not the only evil that religion is bringing to the table.
 
I don't think anyone has said that. BUT I would say that if religion hadn't existed over the last 2000 years, a lot fewer people would have been killed.
 
Of course not. Where on earth did you get that idea? Do you really think the war in the Middle East is about religion?
 
People will stop killing eachother over religion if religion was outlawed.. are you saying that i think drug dealers murdering over money will end?.
 
Nope, but I do believe that people who hide behind religion to justify their killings would have to start taking responsibility for their actions and there are a lot of people who actually would stop killing than, but of course there would still be others who just find another reason.
