Atheists who believe religion should be completely removed from the public...?

Why? Do you realize how many lives you'll be destroying? Do you honestly think removing religion will make the world a better place?! Do you know how many people need religion to keep them healthy and sane? Yes, a delusion will keep people sane and healthy. What's wrong with people having hope that when they die they will enter paradise?

For instance... a religious child with cancer. They have accepted they have cancer and have chosen to fight it because even if they die, because they have chosen to fight solely because they believe in God. They will enter Heaven no matter what happens - but God doesn't want said child to die. God wants that child to fight it and live. If you truly are an Atheist that believes everyone will be better off without religion, go up to that child who has accepted cancer because even though they die, they will enter Heaven and tell them that if they die they will not enter paradise no matter how hard they believe or work, they will simply turn into plant food because God, Heaven, and Hell are nothing but a delusion of the mind. No matter how you explain it to that child, know that if that child gives up fighting because they have learned there is no point in fighting because there is no God. So what if it's a "stupid and delusional" reason to fight for cancer. Be happy that that child died just as soon as you converted them into atheism.

And don't go telling me Atheism is healthy for cancer too. I know that - I'm not stupid. Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Shinto-Buddhism, Humanism to worshiping animals to hot-dogs (You'd be surprised...) will help. But why would you take that away? Destroying the delusion of religion is not going to always make some happy.

(I don't want people to die from cancer; I don't support and I believe every one should fight it to their best ability. I honor and respect all cancer patients; I truly want you to be cured so don't go hating on me for saying the part about cancer. I want cancer along with all other illnesses to be cured forever.)

If I ever become an Atheist, I won't be living more peacefully or content - I'd be a living zombie. I'd be wanting to kill myself because what's the point of living if I'll only turn into plant food? The whole "It's because nothing will happen when you die, you must live to your full extent" is nothing but a load of bull crap to me. It's the fact that after all my hard work at keeping myself healthy that I will be rewarded by entering Heaven for all my hardships. Why would you take that away from me? Why would you take that away that religious cancer patient? Are you that cruel? Do you honestly think we'll all be thanking you for making us see the truth? I guarantee many people will take they're lives if they are given undeniable proof that nothing happens when you die. Celebrate your accomplishment at making people happy and seeing the truth while killing them at the same time - Both emotionally and physically.

Please explain to me why you want to ruin so many lives. Why would someone want to do that? I don't understand... I'm a devoted Christian that follows my beliefs but I would never try to destroy someone's belief so coldly like you people want to. How can you want such suffering for some people?

If I receive no explanations (answers) for this question not only will I still be confused and slowly start to hate Atheism, but I will take this that you people really can't give reason to your cruel wants.

Yahoo... please don't delete this question. I really am confused and need to know. This is not a troll.

Ruin lives ? Are you on something ? Cocaine maybe ?

Do you realize how people should stop killing themselves over some myths ? Do you realize that there are 40 different organized religions in this world, CLEARLY for keeping people on their leashes, and spitting on their weak condition ? Please explain how do you consider, the fear of an invisible torture chamber, to be "sane" ? And then, I will answer your question.
Good day.

Tell you what: you develop a harmless religion that does not cause people to lie about science, does not cause children to be killed for witchcraft, that does not drive gay teens to suicide, and convert all theists to it, and then we'll talk.

religion causes untold harm.

Now go watch the documentary "Saving Africa's Witch Children".

I think you are confused. By removing it from public people generally mean posting it in public spaces that all share, legislating religious beliefs in terms of morality or lifestyle on all people regardless of their not sharing such beliefs, or forcing others to share said beliefs or hold mandatory prayer. That would not prevent individuals who hold such beliefs from doing so themselves or with like minded people.

I find your idea that people only fight to survive because they believe in a god curious. I think its fine if that is the way you feel but I personally don't feel that way. I can assure you there are plenty of reasons in my life to try to live without having belief in deities. My family, the joy I get from life itself, and the goals and plans I'd like to live to work on are just a few. If a god wants the child to live then why give them cancer and why do so many with it die? Doesn't make sense what you have posted to me. How can anyone take away a belief anyway? You either have it or you don't.

"It's the fact that after all my hard work at keeping myself healthy that I will be rewarded by entering Heaven for all my hardships."

No it's your hope, certainly not a fact ... believe anything you want, but the moment you start to say it out loud don't be surprised when people dispute it.

Just as religions attract all sorts of people so does atheism. Atheists are just as prone to being negative, miserable people as the religious are.

I have known many atheists who weren't negative and frankly weren't all about challenging the personal beliefs of others just as I have met people of all religions who weren't consumed with saving my soul or convincing me that I am doomed to some foul eternity.

Take the negativity in stride and live positively. Afterall, peace and contentment in our personal lives is a far better argument than any words we will ever muster. That goes for the religious and atheists alike.

Religion isn't my favourite thing.
It's Horrible.
A Killer.
And a heartbreaker.

But we can't snatch it away.
That's just wrong to the lunatics that do actually believe in that stuff.
They are people, and do have freedom of religion.

i think a lot of atheists just feel persecuted by christianity so they react negatively to it

if most christians really followed what the bible teaches then this would probably not be the case

If no one can give you an intelligent answer for your question on this site, please don't just start hating all atheists. Im an atheist but im not on a mission to rid the world of religion. Many of us don't really want to do that. In fact I actually quite like religion sometimes...i think its interesting and its good to have a society composed of diverse views.

1) You state it will ruin lives, and give no evidence to back it up.
2) You assume we want to ruin lives.
3) Destroying the belief in a fantasy isn't in and of itself evil.

There isn't much to say to you. You're over reacting. Many people have lost religion. They all aren't committing suicide because they lost a reason to live. You're sensationalizing something that happens everyday! People learn something new, change their world view, and adapt.

Give people some credit. Shesh...

You need some perspective. Your myopic view of outcomes, as well as reality is totally screwed.

Question!...How does a delusion manage to keep people sane?
It is more likely to be the opposite.
Delusion leads to insanity.

"I guarantee many people will take they're lives if they are given undeniable proof that nothing happens when you die."

Then evolution will have worked. The mentally and emotionally inferior will have successfully removed themselves from the gene pool.

Darwin awards for all!

the child with cancer is going to die regardless, religion isn't going to stop that, most atheists don't want to totally stop religion, we just don't want it affecting our schools or laws. do whatever you want on Sunday, just don't force me to pray to your God at the beginning of class every morning.

Just because I think that religion should be taken out of public institutions doesn't mean that I think people don't have the right to believe what they want. I just think its wrong for religious people (mostly christians) to have influence over laws and policies that effect 38 million (probably more) non-believers. That is not just or equal. You take part in secular activities every day and it haven't destroyed your life. You go to the park, the hospital, the movies, you go to sports games and they are all secular that have nothing to do with religion and you are just fine. People should want to live because its a rare experience that is amazing, not because they believe that when its over that god will be there. If anything that makes people more ok with dying because they think they will move on to another life. It makes people not care as much about life on earth because they think there is something better. If you think that you can't live with out the idea of god then you are just a weak person. Strong people are the ones who can deal with what reality gives them and make the best of it.
