Simple idea here.
The banana, although a plant, is still subject to the idea of evolution. The yellow banana we know today, came from ONE plant that mutated and was discovered in 1836 . So technically, in this case, there is no "missing" link. As a possible genetic mutation led to a new type of banana. Whereas corn, does have a history of selective "breeding." The plant at first was inedible, but now is a powerhouse of carbohydrates due to years of selective breeding.
