I've got a wireless temperature gauge. The remote yet goes outside, and then the unit that displays the temperature goes inside.

I've found that the batteries in the outdoor unit die extremely fast and it seems to be related to cold temperatures.

So, should cold temperatures, down to about 20F) be affecting battery life span? I've tried both rechargeable NiMH and nonrechargeable alkaline and both have died very quickly.

The remote might not work well in extreme temperatures. If the remote came with a plug-in sensor it may work best to put the remote indoors with just its sensor outdoors. That is what I do.

Otherwise lithium batteries work best in cold weather. That is often mentioned when people ask about operating a GPS unit in cold weather. Maybe an unrelated device, but related operating conditions.

all batterys are effected by tempreature you can help by insulating if this is possible
