BBC extra revenue from DVD.?

For example, the Merlin series on BBC 1 has just come out on DVD in the United Kingdom. Who gets revenue from that DVD? Do the BBC gain any cash from sales of this and many other programmes that are sold on DVD? If they do then why, as surely we have all paid for access to these programmes via our license fees (Those that do pay it!!!) and should not have to fork out for it again. I understand that the BBC is not a profit based organisation but I never hear anyone ask such a question about such a revenue stream for a non profit organisation. Or is it simply that the production company get all the proceeds from sales and it has nothing to do with the BBC once it has gone off air? If they do get money from it, where does that go? wow so many questions!!
Thanks masked landlord. Does that mean that the BBC cant run it's affairs on license fees alone of £3.369 billion? (2007/2008 figures)

The revenue is kept by BBC worldwide - a separate company that contributes to the BBCs running costs. BBC Worldwide also have investments in Channel 4 and the digital UKTV channels (Dave, Gold etc). The license fee does not cover all of the BBCs costs.
