I just started to follow a BJJ class and I find the instructor is just showing me too many moves for me to remember. What are the 5 most basic yet useful submissions to learn?
When I first began my training in BJJ and Judo I simply followed the instructor and his teaching. If it was too much I would ask as many questions as possible. Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's your dime and you deserve the special attention.
Five basic things to learn is actually:
Ask when in confusion
show proper etiquette in the dojo
practice each application with somebody
don't be afraid to tap out to a submission
don't be afraid to lose even if you are certain you will lose
Techniques will work better after a lot of training and that's the most important thing you can learn. I don't mean to be a jerk and go around your question of the five top techniques to learn but don't stray from what your instructor is teaching you. You will learn much more with an open mind.
you need to learn defense before you can pull off any submissions.its the same if you started muay thai, boxing, tae kwon do, etc. dont worry about submitting guys yet.
keep your chin tucked in on the ground and never put your arm straight out on the ground when on top.
