blueray file rips to standard dvd?

after i download a digital copy of ablue ray disc it will not play in a standard dvd player. the file type in windows explore says vlc media file. it will play on pc but not dvd player. i think i need to convert them. how would i go about doing that?

Unless you are pirating (which we do not support here), the official digital copy will be DRM protected, so cannot be converted, or play on other than apps which support the DRM used.
You do not download a "rip", legally, you rip from your original disc.

You will need to get a Blu-Ray player to play your original Blu-Ray disc, find a way to connect your computer to your TV, or go and buy the DVD version.
