BMW parts price question?

Hi, I'm thinking about getting a 2001-2006 E46 BMW m3 and I've been hearing conflicting opinions on the price of parts for this far compared to American made cars. Are the parts prices really that different and does this model require frequent maintenance? Someone with experience in this topic would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Well yeah the parts are very expensive only because these are quality made for performance. Even though for example the car is really cheap to buy the parts never go down because they will always be in demand thats what my dad tells me.
