Bush Attacked

Well I just heard on the online news that there is an online game where you can throw shoes at Bush.

I managed to hit him a few times.

I like how his team came piling through the door looking like they'd just been sat around the dinner table and got disturbed by the neighbour's dog barking in their front yard.

Maybe... Just MAYBE.....

you guys have the wrong impression about his security staff!

Just because they protect him doesn't mean they have to like him ;-)

Anybody see where I am going with this....... ????

I certainly do.

I also found it weird that he threw TWO shoes whereas IMO I would have reacted when he threw his first shoe.

Ironic isn't it?

i think the delay was because everyone was deciding whether to join in, or stop the guy.

It's sad how upset this man obviously was, but throwing shoes at any nation's leader is going to have extremely negative consequences. What's disheartening to me is that rewarding that kind of outrageous behavior with praise (like many people in his country did) only encourages others to do the same and feeds the flames of mob mentality. :/ Not good.

Exactly.

As much as I despise him as a president, that doesnt mean I think it was a good idea.

I mean, yes, joking about it was funny (axelb post is case in point) but in reality its really not cool at all. Patriotism seems to be a prehistoric lost cause these days, and I dont like that.

Patriotism is a lot like faith. In small quantities when it is justified, it's great, but when it's blind it can make you do terrible things.

He knew what would happen when he did this. But it doesn't excuse the fact that he was tortured afterwards. If they ever let him out of whatever hellish pit they've dropped him in he'll have all the medical care. comforts and respect that the entire Muslim world, and a quite a few place outside it, can provide.

Yeah, I understand. On a deeper level it's pretty awful, but on the surface, it's hilarious. I've enjoyed watching all of the Matrix youtube parodies.

Haha, that would've been harder to duck! For that reason, he probably would've preferred the shoes.

I wouldn't give Bush all the credit. It's the American foreign policy of regime change from the 80s that Bush resurrected that is to blame. The people that created those policies believed the American people can't unite and come together as a nation unless they have a common enemy. It's dubed "The Politics of Fear".

Bush is to blame for the current wave of anti-American sentiment. Not just amongst people in the Middle East. But also amongst people in allied countries. However the anti-American sentiment has been there for a long time bubbling under the surface.

There's a 3 part BBC documentary called, The Power of Nightmares, that covers the use of the "politics of fear" that the likes of Bush and Tony Blair try to use to control not only their own countries but others as well.

The bottom line is if you are messing with the political and power structures of other countries, creating wars, funding wars, profiteering from wars, then sooner or later that truth will be outed and the people of those countries that have suffered will hate you for it and will want revenge.

Take the Iran, Iraq war as one example of how America is willing to profiteer from war and suffering and fight wars via proxy. The good old US of A was caught red handed double dealing and selling weaponry to both sides. Prolonging the conflict.

How many people died in that war that simply didn't need to die?

Anybody thought that the guy threw the shoes because Bush was talking COBBLERS again!!!!

There's a thin line between patriotism and nationalism. Being patriotic doesn't mean looking past all the faults and wrongs of the nation or leader you support. Core moral principles such as reason, righteousness, responsibility shouldn't be compromised because "oh he's my president, I should support him no matter what". Its like a condoning your child who got caught punching a disabled kid in the face. Yes parental instincts should make me want to defend him but I'm more than inclined to lay the smacking on the damn kid myself. Instead of siding by flags, why can't we just base it all on the actions itself and let our reason/morality be the judge.

Bush getting shoes thrown at him was probably the least punishment he got from the Iraqis. I mean really, going in to the country you invaded and destabilized, you're not suppose to be expecting a applause and warm hugs.

To be honest I think the concept of patriotism is just a bully tactic to force descenting voices into line. The whole American obsession with being patriotic is one reason why idiots like Bush can get into power in the first place and get away with starting wars.
