buzzing sound when I turn on my heat on 01 BMW 540?

I have an 01 BMW 540 that is making a buzzing sound when I turn the heat on. It sounds like someone is sticking a baseball card in the spokes of a bike wheel. It gets louder when I turn the wheel to the right and goes away when I turn it left. I have pulled the air filters under the hood and they are fine and also checked the squirrel cages and there are no leafs or anything in there. You can hear the sound from inside and outside the car. Anyone else had this happen? Can it be the heater/AC motor?
