to the disk)? I wanted to put a couple movies on a dvd. The dvd says it can hold 120 minutes OR 4.7 GB. Big difference. So, can a Phillips dvp642/37 (progressive scan, Divx) play 4.7 GB of movies if I write them to the disk that way instead of burning only 120 minutes on to the disk??

It really depends on the format of the movies. 120 minutes and 4.7 GB is really not a difference. They're essentially referring to the length of standard DVD format (the *.vob files on a standard DVD video) video that fits into 4.7 GB.

So when you say "big difference", that's only true if you're being sarcastic. Otherwise, yeah... You can fit a lot more than 120 minutes worth of video in some other (non-DVD standard) format such as DivX. The player supports DivX from versions 3.11 through 5.x. If your videos are in that format, then yes it will play them.
