I'm looking to buy a car or truck in the next 6-12 months. I was just wondering on what specific cars or trucks someone would recommend me looking into in the 2k-3k price range?

-It would be a short distance commuter car for me (15 miles to work). I'm not very picky. My current car is a Nissan Maxima that has a lot of cosmetic problems; power windows are broke, no rear speakers, no AC(which is made worse since the windows are tricky), and no cup holders. :-) So anything is really a step up. Also it leeks oil like clouds leek rain, so I spend almost as much on oil as I do on gas.

I was thinking maybe about a truck because I will probably have many people I can help move in the next few years. but honestly a smaller commuter car would do me good too. What specific makes and models would you recommend, and Why? Thanks.

p.s. I can drive stick.

to make that 2 or 3 grand work for you spend time looking for a truck owned by some old guy who took good care of it, not some kid who whipped on it. Plan on looking at lots of broken crap, thats how it goes. By watching the local papers want ads everyday, you can tell when a new ad goes in. If it looks like a good deal, you have to be there as soon as you can, because a good deal will be gone with the first guy who gets there. and it is basically being in the right place, at the right time, and being there first. A private party vehicle will give you the most bang for your buck. If you live in a big city, it may be a lot faster to find what you want. If you live in a small town, go visit someone you know who lives in a big city and keep an eye on the newspaper everyday.

I think a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic would be a perfect car for you. Both have top-notch reliability, fuel economy, resale value, the list goes on and on. You can have a nice one for $3k, depending if you want to go older/less miles or newer/more miles. If you want something a bit bigger, a Camry or Accord would be great as well.
