Can I use my ddru controller to play 360 games?

I'm thinking of rebuying a 360 and buying dance dance revolution 2, from a friend. She is selling it because her daughter moved and didn't want it anymore. I just want to know before hand if I can use the ddru controller to play games like XBLA games. I realize it wont be able to do analogue or the trigger/shoulder buttons but I just want to verify that I can use it for basic games or just scrolling through the menu. It will save me the 5 hour drive to her house to buy it and find out it doesn't work that way :(.
