can my 5 year old travel without a car seat/booster seat on a plane?

my husband and I will be travelling in October with our 5 year old. She is currently in a booster seat iin the car and I was wondering if I should bring her booster seat with me on the plane or if she can ride with just the lap belt.
I spoke to the airline and they did not give me a clear answer.

It does depend on the height of your child, but I do suggest that you bring her booster seat. It is a small extra cost (I think) and is just more secure. Just in case.

she does not need a booster seat or anything.. they may just have her sit on your lap.
They will tell you to make sure shes secure. which is common sence.
