I have a car amplifier and 2 subwoofers that I took out of an old car of mine and I'm thinking about wiring it up for use in my living room. The amp can handle 4 or 8ohms and so can the subwoofers. The amp has only rca inputs.
In my living room I have a sony receiver that is audio only. It operates at 8 ohms. There is no rca jack for the subwoofer. It is wired with regular stereo wire just like the front, center and rear speakers.
Can I use a speaker wire to rca adapter to connect the sub out on the receiver to the rca inputs on the amplifier? Here is an example of the speaker wire to rca adapter: http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=speaker%20wire%20rca&origkw=speaker%20wire%20rca&sr=1
And if that will work can I wire the subwoofers to the amplifier at 4 ohms or will it have to be 8 ohms to match the receiver?
