I have an older home (probably 60+ years). Before I bought it, it was renovated with new siding. All the time I've lived here (about 10 years now) I just thought my toilet didn't have a vent stack, and we installed auto-vents under the cabinet. I was outside replacing the exterior light on my house and under the siding found the vent stack (on the other side of the wall is my bathroom toilet). Sure enough I flushed the toilet to confirm it was the vent stack and yep, it is. It has been covered by siding this whole time.
Is it fine the way it is? The proper way is to run it to the roof and out the roof, on most homes. I have a second storey where our bedrooms are located, and the bathroom is on the main level. I only have 1 bathroom.
I am getting a large fixed awning/canopy installed in about 2 weeks.
I don't want the vent stack to come out onto the deck so it can be seen by everyone who is on my deck.
Should I elbow it and run ABS piping up higher? It will look awful I would think.
Let me know if you have any suggestions! I could even provide pictures if you wanted.
