Can you transfer iPhone Number to a normal sim card? *10POINTS*?

A question for all you phone wizzes.

A year ago I purchased an iPhone 4 - I transfered by existing number to a special iphone simcard.

6 months later I was told apparently 'Onece a number is on iphone sim card you cannot send it to a different network'

Is this true?

So basically I want to get a different phone but keep my existing number

You can always transfer your old number to your new carrier just inform the company you want to
when they said "Once a number is on iphone SIM CARD you cannot send it to a different network" what they mean is putting the sim card into for example "t mobile network" if your in like At&t
