I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When the car is driving the engine tempature is fine, but when at redlights or traffic the car starts to overheat. I have brought it to a questionable meinake where they say it needs a coolant fan module. now, i am asking you if this sounds right, and also how much you think it will cost me to fix...they say 350$...i also read on yahoo answers that someone had the same probolem and someone suggested that there was a 70$ part i could buy from chrysler...does anyone have any info on this..PLEASE

Coolant level is good?
Radiator is in good condition?

Lets consider the fan's needs.

It needs to have power, in this case 12 volts.
It needs to be told when to turn on, typically a temperature switch and a fan relay do this job.

I would verify that it is getting 12 volts to the fan motor.
I would check the temperature sending unit's connections too and verify that the fan relay is correctly connected as well.

You may need to hit up a library and copy the page from a repair manual showing the cooling system wiring diagram.

If this was a common fault (and it could be) the local dealer would show a history of having sold a few. Call them up and ask about this part's history. If they sell 25 a year then we can deduce that it may be the item the shop suggested.

Always, always begin with the basics on any of your vehicle's operating systems.

It is your coolant fan and it could be a fan relay, or it could be a coolant temperature sensor. I doubt it would be a coolant fan module. I would replace the sensor first and then the relay.
