Car Radio/Audio Installation Question?

I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix that i would like to upgrade the audio on. The audio is completely stock, and i mainly would like to upgrade the bass, as the treble does extremely well piercing through the ears.

However, in doing this, I was wondering if i can go without purchasing a new head unit, as i like the original that comes with the car. I could change all four speakers, but with a stock radio i don't know how well that would sound.

I don't want the trouble of putting a amplifier in with a subwoofer. Any Ideas? Or comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure how a sub would work, but I hear you can find some 4-way speakers or whatever that can add some descent bass to your sound. You should be able to simply replace your old speakers i.e. the ones on your doors with the same sized 4-way versions. I know it won't give you that over the top, heart throbbing, sexy bass, but to me anything is better than pure treble.
