First off, I know very little about cars. I do have a friend with a little more knowledge than me who can help. I'm fairly intuitive and don't mind tinkering if I might be able to do it myself as I'm on a limited budget.

The car is a 1997 Saab SE 900, manual transmission. The battery was replaced and was driven to my house about a mile away. It seemed to drive fine to me, but again I'm no expert. It was definitely leaking oil afterward.

I've read up on it some, but I hear different things from different people. Some people suggest a few things, and others suggest replacing EVERYTHING. What's really necessary? I'm torn between: trying to do it all myself; taking it to a jiffy lube or something and having them change out all the fluids; bringing it to a professional for service; or some combination of these options. I'd like to do it on the cheap, but at the same time I don't want to miss something and shorten the life of the vehicle.

If I do it myself, is this an all day project for a novice? And if I take it to a professional, or even jiffy lube for fluids, what's that going to cost me roughly?

Thanks for the help in advance!!
