Consumer Electronics Poll: Why do people insist on spending hundreds on...

...the latest, unproven gadget? I'm thinking mainly of the iPhone 4 that has been plagued by problems since it went on sale a few weeks or so ago.

Here is the latest story I saw, where Apple is giving away free cases to solve their antenna problems:

I totally understand wanting to have the "newest and best" gadget. I really do understand, but when you're spending several hundreds on something that inevitably will not work right initially?

Why don't people wait until a) the rush is over and b) the bugs are worked out?

Thanks for your thoughts.
Gee, can't understand why Leilani has 0% Best Answers. lol

My car is 24 years old and my computer is coal-fired. My stereo has vacuum tubes and I play vinyl records. The last electronic item I bought is a laptop computer I've had since 2005.
