Difference between BMW 1 series 2004 model to 2007 model?

Is there a difference because I had from 2007 the 1 series had a facelift, I can't see the difference but is there any difference? I'm looking to buy an M Sport 1 Series but if there's no difference I might as well buy an older version. Thanks
