I got two DVD's in the mail I ordered last week, and just realized they were BlueRay.. what is the difference and will they still play in my regular DVD player or do I have to return them?

blu ray is a high resolution format disc its 6x the quality of dvd it is scratch resistant and has uncompressed audio meaning better sound and picture because it can store 6x as much info.and it is recorded in 1080p (2,073,600 pixels) compared to dvd 480p (about 350,000 pixels) and no they will not play in a dvd player buy a bluray player which can play bluray and dvd and make dvd look better as well.but only if you have a HDTV and HDMI or Component cables regular tvs wont show the quality so if you have a regular tv return the movies if you have a HD tv buy a blu ray player and HDMI cable.
