a one-armed children's TV? my question is do you think that the people who complained are just twits and shud join the real world
Cerrie Burnell, who was born with one arm, began co-presenting Cbeebies 'Do And Discover' slot with Alex Winters last month.

She has a broad range of success as an actor, both in the theatre and on television.

But parents on online forums have claimed she 'frightens' their children.

Poster Barry wrote: "Is it just me, or does anyone else think the new woman presenter on Cbeebies (Cerrie Burnell) may scare the kids because of her disability?

I've heard about this, and this is the first time i've commented on it...
If people can't figure out that they did this to give parents open doors of communication to speak with their children about others with disabilities then something is wrong!
I don't think she frightens their children so much as parents are frightened that their children may actually come across someone like this in real life and not know how to handle it or act correctly...evidence is that the parents instead of saying..hey, it's okay to be different than everyone else and still be just as good as anyone else... say their kids are scared.
This is why people with disabilities may end up getting picked on in school more often, ignorant parents!

So they complain that the image of this lady with a disability would frighten their children, well they showed David Cammerons little boy on tv and on the front page of the newspapers and he looked different from all their perfect children, so would that have scared them? No of course it wouldn`t, the parents are doing a rubbish job with their children if a person with a disability is scarey to their child, for Gods sake they should grow up go to parenting classes.

Are you talking about the new Cbeebies presenter? Thats really horrible! I do prefer Chris and Poi but there is no reason to complain about some one with a disability being on our TV screens, I think it is great that the BBC tries to heighten awareness with Kerry and their programme 'Something Special'.

Thats funny.. My daughter who is now 21 has one arm and children LOVE her ..they ask questions and are curious ..not afraid . I'd freaking SUE over discrimination like this. And my daughter says to these kind of mother's..." If I had two hands ..I'd flip you off twice"

this made me really cross. do they mean people with disabilities should hide away somewhere? you can't shelter your children from everything in life, my kids are 2 and 4 and they watch everyday and have never even mentioned it. it is just part of life.

Kids are able to deal with a lot more than we sometimes give them credit for. Our job is not to protect them from the world, our job is to teach them how to deal with it. Which can be difficult to do when you have your own head wedged firmly up your backside, as old mate Barry seems to have.
