this means that jesus loved people unconditionally, regardless of what they did or didnt do, hope i was helpfull
 
He wanted to be sure that his father would not take his grief and displeasure out on the Roman soldiers who were only doing their job.

It is a valuable lesson to us all, however.
 
I see two possibilities:

1) Jesus stated in John 17 that he was not praying for the world, but for those who were chosen. I think there were a few chosen who were involved in his crucifixion.

2) All humans were guilty of sinning. Especially putting the Son of God to death. Jesus was supposed to provide the propitiation, and the words were for that manifestation of forgiveness. He spoke, and even though there was sinful humans, there was forgiveness.
